Dead Wolf Club Notting Hill Arts Club
Take yourself back to the nineties when heavy riffs and melodic
exchanges were the norm, Dead Wolf Club sounded like a trippy Radiohead
at the Notting Hill Arts Club. This effervescent band hasn’t invented
anything new-fangled but what I do know is that they are definitely
good.
The most beguiling song of the night was Wave which would
have had most people’s neighbours knocking on their door to turn it
down. The heavy bass line, squealing vocals and untamed drumming were
infectious and the punters were enjoying a nice little indie shuffle
too.
For such a short set they proved their point as their
self-styled genre, Dark Punk Geek Rage. Raw and un-refined is what makes
this group so appealing and with such catchy songs they would be any
music labels dream.
If there was an award for longest fringe of
the year John Othello the lead singer would have to receive a
nomination. A little more eye contact with the audience would have been
more engaging. Most people were probably left feeling like John had a
Cyclops from X – Men power with only his mouth on view. Fringes and
superpowers aside Dead Wolf Club are an immense live band and with such
colossal songs already who knows what a little bit of nurturing could do
for them
